Offering Spelling to Communicate services in Port Huron, MI

Hi, I'm Rachel Damrow

I'm a wife and mom to two little boys, Landon and Tyler. I have a master's degree in art therapy and ran an inclusive arts program for people with disabilities before Landon's autism diagnosis took me on a different path.

When Landon was about 18 months old my husband and I noticed he wasn't speaking yet but believed with early intervention that speech would eventually come. It never did. While searching for a method of communication that would work for him I discovered Spelling to Communicate. Reading about the experiences of nonspeakers who learned to spell on letterboards was life changing and I quickly decided to pursue practitioner training to help my son and others like him.

I started the Spelling to Communicate practitioner training program through I-ASC in August 2021 and completed my internship spring of 2022. My passion has always been helping others to express themselves, only now I use a letterboard instead of a paintbrush. I enjoy building relationships with each speller I work with and am honored to guide them to open the door to communication. I'm looking forward to connecting with you!
